The Dyslexia Proclamation for October detailed below has been sent to the Governor’s office for review.  We need your help to make a request for more Dyslexia Proclamations from your local city, school board, county and state representatives.  Please reach out as soon as possible and make your request.  You can use the same language as seen below.  Contact them now….time is of the essence!

Dyslexia Proclamation for October

As Presented to Governor Terry McAullife

Whereas, the Commonwealth has no more precious resource than its children and dyslexia impacts approximately 1 in 5 or 20% of our population; and

Whereas, dyslexia is distinguished from other learning disabilities due to its weakness occurring at the phonological level and is neurobiological in origin; and

Whereas, dyslexia is an unexpected disability in an individual who is of average to above average intelligence; and

Whereas, it is important to provide effective teaching approaches and related clinical educational intervention strategies for individuals with dyslexia; and

Whereas, Dyslexia Awareness Month is an opportunity to acknowledge educators specializing in effective teaching strategies, and to celebrate the many achievements of adolescents, students and adults with dyslexia

    There is no stronger statement than this, …”it is important to provide effective teaching approaches and related clinical educational intervention strategies for individuals with dyslexia.” Children with dyslexia are capable of learning to read provided this OPPORTUNITY! Thank You to everyone who is using an evidence-based program and shares the joy of helping a very capable child learn to read!
